The objective of this work was to analyze the results of teaching starting methods for motors, in the Electrical Drives discipline, through the CADeSIMU simulation software, from the perspective of the POE methodology (Prediction, Observation and Explanation). For this, a pedagogical intervention was carried out, consisting of ten meetings, in a second-year class of the Middle Level Technical Course in Integrated Electrotechnics at the Federal Institute of Mato Grosso - Campus Cuiabá. The approach used in this research is characterized as qualitative, with aspects that bring it closer to a case study. To check the knowledge of the class on the theme of this work, a questionnaire of prior knowledge was used. The starting methods for motors contemplated in this study were: Direct Start, Star-Delta Start and Key-Compensator Start. For data collection, the following instruments were used: notes in the field diary, audio recorder, programs developed in CADeSIMU simulation software and recording through photos; these data were analyzed descriptively. The results of this research indicated that the use of CADeSIMU guided by means of POE guides brought relevant contributions in the teaching of starting methods, among them are: development in the reading and interpretation of force and command diagrams, freedom for students to explore and test freely their ideas without taking risks, and improves their critical thinking for practical classes. Still, an aspect that was enhanced, especially by the POE methodology, was the ability to work as a team, as each guide and activity had to be performed in a group, thus, it can be seen that, among them, there was a debate of ideas and possibilities at all stages of the POE.
