Este trabalho visa compreender a relação entre a religião e o crime e a transgressão de leis no Estado de direito brasileiro, especialmente em comunidades periféricas. Essa relação existe há muitos anos e vem ganhando força nas últimas décadas com o advento das mídias sociais e com a pulverização dos templos (neo)pentecostais. Objetivamente buscar-se-á desenvolver uma linha temporal desde o início da constituição das comunidades até os dias atuais, assimilando, especificamente, a influência religiosa nas atividades do crime organizado e o papel do Estado laico nesta relação. A metodologia utilizada foi um estudo exploratório qualitativo, por meio do método fenomenológico, partindo de estudos de campo realizados por autores de livros e entrevistas com referências nas áreas que dialogam entre si (religião, crime e Estado). Percebeu-se que o Estado possui pouca gerência sobre a vida criminosa nas periferias e o vínculo religioso está limitado pela Constituição Federal diante o Estado laico.
This work aims to understand the relationship between religion and crime and the transgression of laws in the Brazilian rule of law, especially in peripheral communities. This relationship has existed for many years and has been gaining strength in recent decades with the advent of social media and the spread of (neo)Pentecostal temples. The objective will be to develop a timeline from the beginning of the establishment of the communities to the present day, specifically assimilating the religious influence on the activities of organized crime and the role of the secular state in this relationship. The methodology used was a qualitative exploratory study, using the phenomenological method, based on field studies carried out by authors of books and interviews with references in the areas that interact with each other (religion, crime and the state). It emerged that the state has little control over criminal life in the peripheries and that religious ties are limited by the Federal Constitution in the face of the secular state.
