The Brazilian Sign Language is the basis of the interaction of the deaf community in society. It is the language that allows the insertion of this linguistically minority group with other people. In health courses the teaching of Libras is optional. Emphasizing the importance of the theme under the aspect of social inclusion and higher education, the present paper presents as main objective to investigate how undergraduates in the health area of the Nursing course understand the teaching of Libras in their education from the experience of curricular practices of professional practice with deaf people. This is a qualitative and descriptive investigation developed in a Higher Education Institution in the interior of the State of Rondônia. As participants of this research, four nursing students, the coordinator of the Health Center and the professor of Libras were part of the study. A discussion group was conducted with the students and semi-structured interviews with the coordinator and the teacher as a data collection instrument. As an analysis technique, we opted for discursive textual analysis. In an analysis of the participants' statements and related theoretical references, three categories emerged: Approximations and Distances Between the Teaching of Pounds in Health Courses and the Curricular Practices of Professional Practice, in which he identified the scarcity of specificities of the health area in the discipline of Libras, being a limiting factor for professional/deaf interaction. The second category refers to Pedagogical Practices of the Discipline of Libras in the Health Area, identifying the use of videos, resolution of problem situations, applications/software and the physical presence of the deaf as the most relevant. The last category emerges on The Teaching of Pounds and the Professional Practice of Nursing Students, which raised questions about how the exercise of the language contributes to its learning, as well as the need for more actions and social events aimed at the deaf community. It is concluded that the greatest difficulties of teaching Libras in the health area are related to the lack of contextualization of the content proposed by the discipline's menu with the professional health area, highlighting the importance of a teacher who develops pedagogical practices that favor learning according to the area of activity and also that educational institutions promote more actions of interaction between deaf and hearing.
