Bumba meu boi is a folkloric representation of Brazilian popular culture, especially the state of Maranhão, with musical characteristics, presence of dances and theatrical performance. Thus, this dissertation aims to investigate teachers' perceptions about the teaching of Portuguese Language through the toada of Bumba meu boi and how they use these tunes in their pedagogical practices. From this perspective, the research involved a qualitative methodological approach, through discursive textual analysis (ATD), with data collection with high school teachers from public schools in São Luís / MA. The course of the text begins with the description of the origin of the manifestation of the toada Bumba meu boi and its representation as a symbol of Maranhão identity, based on the theoretical legacy of authors in the field. In the following, it discusses notions of lexicon, language and culture and its relation with Bumba meu boi's toada as orality practice, as well as considerations about the teaching of Portuguese Language and the importance of sociolinguistics in the classroom. Then, we explain the methodological path of the research, characterization, delimitation and organization of the corpus, procedures of assembly and archive of the corpus, sampling and profile of the participants. In the discussion of the collected data, the categories of meaning units (US) are examined: social representation: teachers seem to recognize the conceptual richness of toada; orality practices: teachers recognize expressions that show enunciative indicators, as well as aspects of orality present in the toada; and with regard to teaching practices: teachers use the toada in Portuguese language classes in Maranhão schools consistent with the students' sociolinguistic and cultural universe. Thus, considering this result, the study concludes and highlights the potential for use and the wealth of possibilities that toada can constitute as a teaching practice and its social relevance to the cultural context of Maranhão.
