O presente trabalho monográfico analisa como a agenda climática do século XXI exige que os países realizem uma transição energética, substituindo fontes fósseis de produção de energia por alternativas limpas e renováveis, como medida essencial para combater o aquecimento global e os seus efeitos nocivos. Nesse contexto, é fundamental compreender o panorama atual da produção energética mundial, pois isso permite identificar as mudanças necessárias para viabilizar essa transição. Além disso, dado o papel central da energia na sociedade contemporânea, é previsível que a transição energética traga desafios consideráveis, tanto em nível nacional quanto global, e gere implicações geopolíticas, especialmente no que diz respeito a uma possível reorganização do sistema energético mundial. Assim, neste trabalho foram analisadas e discutidas as necessidades e a viabilidade dessa transição, explorando como as nações têm lidado com os desafios envolvidos. Para tanto, foi investigado, à luz de duas das principais teorias das Relações Internacionais: se uma postura cooperativa no sistema internacional, voltada para a efetivação da transição energética, é plausível, ou se prevalece uma abordagem mais individualista, centrada nos interesses próprios de cada país.
This monographic work analyzes how the 21st century climate agenda requires countries to make an energy transition, replacing fossil sources of energy production with clean and renewable alternatives, as an essential measure to combat global warming and its harmful effects. In this context, it is essential to understand the current panorama of world energy production, in order to identify the changes needed to make this transition possible. In addition, given the central role of energy in contemporary society, it is foreseeable that the energy transition will bring considerable challenges, both nationally and globally, besides generating geopolitical implications, especially with regard to a possible reorganization of the world energy system. This paper therefore analyzes and discusses the needs and feasibility of this transition, exploring how nations have dealt with the challenges involved. To this end, it was investigated, in the light of two of the main theories of International Relations: whether a cooperative stance in the international system, aimed at bringing about the energy transition, is plausible, or whether a more individualistic approach prevails, centered on each country's own interests.
