Manual dexterity, vigorous inspiration and mastery of using the inhaler are fundamental to the effectiveness of the treatment. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the use of the formoterol fumarate + budesonide 12mcg/400mcg inhalation device by users of the Unified Health System (SUS) in the city of Cruzeiro do Sul/RS, in order to identify whether and which type of nonconformity is found and what the consequences may be in the treatment of COPD. The level of knowledge regarding the use of the medication was analyzed through questions regarding frequency of use, dose, precautions and request for demonstration of how the patient uses it through an interview carried out from August to October 2024. The results described the main and most frequent errors in the technique of using the inhalation device, which include not exhaling before inhaling the drug, not holding the breath for 10 seconds, which can lead to less deep inhalation and can cause the drug to be exhaled and less drug deposition at the level of central pathways. Pharmaceutical guidance in the treatment of patients with COPD is extremely important and the lack thereof impacts the correct use of inhaler devices by the patient, potentially preventing errors made in treatment.
