On Monday 26, Univates welcomed four students from Concordia University of Edmonton, Canada, who are in the institution for two weeks attending a course in health care. The project, built in partnership between the Center for Biology and Health Sciences (CCBS) and International Relations Office, will provide students with practical experience.
According to the Director of International Relations, Viviane Bischoff, Canada has a low rate of students that leave the country in search for academic experience. For example, if ten foreign students enter the country for an exchange program, only one Canadian leaves. "Receiving four students is extremely rewarding for the partnership work between Univates and Concordia since 2012. The experience has contributed in several aspects, especially for the students involved in the course, both Canadians because they are inserted in a very different context from Canada, and the students of Univates, who will be living with foreigners in those 15 days" she says, pointing out that the intention is to make these immersion courses increasingly available to foreigners.
For the students Drew Carson, Anthony Sousa, Kim Hong and Christina Hong, Univates becomes a support in order to decide the area of action that they will follow professionally, considering the multidisciplinary aspect of the course offered. Anthony has also highlighted the interest in the research area of Environment and Development that the Institution offers.
Yesterday, the students participated in a guided tour through the campus and began the activities promoted by CCBS. Today, the 27th, they will participate in the Interdisciplinary Health Care Project in the Neighborhood Santo Antônio. In the next few days, they will be involved in experiences in the health area through activities promoted by the undergraduate programs of CCBS.
This is the first time that Canadian students come to the Institution to conduct academic activities. In 2014, Univates received the Concordia choir, and in March of this year, a visit by a professor, Shaun Aghili, who participated in the International Week.
