mercado consumidor.
In Brazil, the Cerrado stands out as the second largest national biome, with a great diversity of products potentially viable for economic exploitation. However, the lack of knowledge about the importance that biodiversity plays in the functioning of ecosystems is one of the factors that favor their deforestation. Based on this premise, it was aspired to evaluate the extractive practices of Cerrado fruits to guarantee their preservation, since in the Brazilian legal system there is no specific legislation to protect the Cerrado. The objective of the study was to verify whether these practices contribute to the preservation of the biome in the rural area of the municipality of Arinos, in the northwest region of Minas Gerais, identifying which fruits are collected and sold and whether there are environmental damages caused by the extraction process. The research was qualitative, in order to understand the behavior of the interviewees in view of the need to preserve the biome. Groups of autonomous and cooperative agroextractivists were selected to participate in the research through interviews. Bibliographic searches and on-site visits were also carried out, with observation of the natural behavior of the interviewees in their routine in the field, as well as, it was considered to identify the production, processing and commercialization flows of the fruits, the main threats to the ecosystem and the necessary measures to its preservation. Thus, the present study presented a diagnosis portraying the importance of the Cerrado for the environmental, economic and social balance of the region. As a result, parameters were presented for the constitution of public policies for the preservation of the cerrado through the sustainable extraction of its fruits, valuing family farming. The cooperative's role in organizing and providing technical support to agribusinesses with the insertion of products in the consumer market was highlighted.
